To
support the transparency of price estimates of fish at the point of unloading,
the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority - General Santos Fish Port
Complex (PFDA-GSFPC), together with SOCSKSARGEN Federation of Fishing and
Allied Industries, Inc. (SFFAII), initiated a project called PRICE ESTIMATE OF UNLOADING or
PRES-U. This is a system that will provide a daily, real-time monitoring of
prices of fish to increase awareness on the part of the supplier and buyer at
Market Trading Halls 1 to 3 - mainly to eliminate unreasonable pricing.
The said project was inaugurated last March 22, 2018 at Market Hall 1, General Santos Fish Port Complex. It was attended by the General Manager of PFDA, Atty. Glen Pangapalan, Asst. General Manager of PFDA, Atty. Loralie C. Datahan, GenSan City Mayor Ronel C. Rivera, GenSan City Vice Mayor Shirlyn Bañas-Nograles, GenSan Fishport Manager, Mr. Jose M. Abarquez, SFFAII Executive Director, Ms. Rosanna Bernadette Contreras, SFFAII Officers, Mayors of Kiamba and Maitum, Counsilor Brix Tan (Committee on Fisheries), Engr. Milagros Casis (RED-DA12), NGOs and other group representatives.
In order for the system to work, the SOCSKSARGEN Federation of Fishing and Allied Industries, Inc. provided 3 units of 51” LCD TV, and the PFDA-GSFPC provided computer hardware and the system development. The system will display on screen the scrolling information of the name of the fish, its quality, and its highest and lowest selling price. The system will update the information every two complete scroll cycles. Additionally, it is also capable to disseminate video presentations for various purposes, such as video presentations on Good Housekeeping Practices, News, Announcements, etc.
